ATTENTION: Beware of technical support phone scam
Several members of the Concordia community have been randomly targeted by callers pretending to be from Microsoft, Windows Support, HP, etc. phoning to fix a presumed computer problem. Many calls have originated from 1-253-802-0308, although the phone number may vary.
The caller advises potential victims that their computer has been flagged by their service provider and asks that special instructions be followed to remedy the situation. This allows the caller to trick people into installing malicious software on their computer, or even take remote control over the computer, thereby leaving it vulnerable.
IITS wishes to remind the Concordia community to ignore any such calls. IITS' desktop support contracts and campus agreements with Microsoft and HP will never result in users receiving calls to their office or home directly from the manufacturer. These calls can be hazardous for your computer.
If you are ever unsure of the authenticity of a call, please do not hesitate to contact the IITS Helpline at help@concordia.ca or (514) 848-2424, ext. 7613. Thank you.
